The Jitsu Foundation, is a progressive martial arts organisation made up of martial clubs for children and adults. We acknowledge the history and practice of traditional martial arts, but place them in a modern setting for a modern changing society.
Many people come to Jitsu for self defence, others have different technical and spiritual goals. We will help you to strive to reach them, though they will all require effort, hard work and commitment.
We pride ourselves on the Foundation being a friendly and inspiring place to train in martial arts and for having a very strong social scene at every level, from club and region to country and international.

At Ippon Ryu Jiu Jitsu club we teach traditional Japanese Jiu Jitsu - translated this means 'Gentle Art', however this relates to the practitioner and not to the individual on the receiving end :). Jiu Jitsu is the martial art of the disarmed Samurai, and was created by warriors from their experiences on the battlefield during life-or-death struggles. When called upon to defend himself the warrior would evade an attacker's lunge then counter with a combination of strikes, joint locking and throwing of their attacker. It can be seen as being a combination of Karate and Judo - although the reality is that these 2 other martial arts derived as specialisations from schools of technique of Jiu Jitsu. We teach a comprehensive range of techniques from throws and strikes to joint-locking and ground holds, grappling and weapon-defences, plus traditional japanese weapon kata. We're a friendly club and are ideal for if you're interested in the traditional ethos behind the art, or for learning self-defence.
Beginners are always welcome so please don't hesitate to come along and give us a try. For more information please ring Sensei Andrew Newman on 07889 755878 or Sensei Chris Rawlings on 07827 292090 or email us at [email protected] We are registered with the British Ju Jitsu Association Governing Body (www.bjjagb.com), recognised by Sport England.
